Who writes this stuff?

I try to keep my priorities in order: Jesus, my Andy, our children, everything else. I homeschool our boys, love to read almost all written words and have been challenged by the military life for 18 years. Right now my faulty human body is demanding a lot of attention. One day at a time, learning as much as possible every day and remembering to look for JOY when other things threaten to overwhelm.

My Blog Title Verse

"For the Lord gives wisdom. From His mouth come knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:6 NKJV
The Message translation puts it this way "God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding."

The cast party

 First things first -
My Mom and Dad leave for India tomorrow. Dad goes every year, so sending him off, while still a prayer request because it is a long journey, isn't quite so traumatic. But Mom, Mom doesn't go as often. Now that she has been struggling with so much pain, and balance and has her cane - traveling across the world is a little more stressful.
But, Dad has hope in a therapy there in India. Along with his usual support of the ministry he has always been involved with, visiting the people they love and bringing supplies that are needed, he is bringing Mom to see a specialist for a bit of homeopathic medicine.
Please, pray for safety while traveling. Pray for comfort in the plane, since Mom hurts all the time anyway - I can promise you that sitting in a plane for 13  hours isn't the best thought! Most of all, pray that a different doctor looking at her MRI will see something new, and let God work through his therapy to heal her completely.
 Thanks~

Now, on to a recap of a very fun afternoon.
The cast party for Anne of Green Gables. Act 1 is made up of youth, mostly 12-20. Younger siblings are often invited to participate, and some of the older students who have "graduated" still come back and make a guest appearance. But the majority of the cast are usually teens. Ah, teenagers.
 Pizza -

 Loud music -

I purposely took a picture of the proud mom taking a picture of her son.
Someday, that will probably be me.
 Dancing -

What more could you want?
The musicians were actually playing their first "gig". Adam, the guitarist, was in the play.
He was jamming, and the kids were playing around. Canaan was joining in, very enthusiastically.

Flips, Sliding across the floor on his knees (no wonder I can't keep a pair of jeans without holes!) playing the air guitar.

Canaan and his friend True were having a blast!
For the closing song they played the theme song to Pirates of the Caribbean.
Canaan came up to me, his heart pounding, his eyes tearing up.
I thought he must have sprained his ankle doing some crazy dance move -
Instead, I hear, "Mom, this is just the coolest thing EVER!!!".
Cool enough to bring him to tears.
And he is only 7 (and a half, as I am often reminded).
I don't want to think about how much he is going to love music when he is 15.
Or how loud he is going to play it.

At least I have Andy to prepare me now!              Blessings,

Musicians in training

Just because...
Z had the guitar on the "wrong" shoulder at first.
After I switched it, he was a much happier musician.
I am looking forward to the teenage years. Truly I am. I may have to invest in really good earplugs, but what fun!

Adventures all around

Today has been a day full of adventures.

It started at 8:30 when my neighbor called and said, "Hey, can I ask you a favor... wait, I'll have to call you back. There is a cop pulling into my driveway."
Being the fabulous neighbor that I am, I got dressed in a hurry. I figured there was a good chance I would be needed for something. It would seem that it is never a good thing to have a cop pulling into your driveway at 8:30 in the morning!
First, some back story. We went out to lunch yesterday, and when we got to the restaurant she couldn't find her purse - we assumed she had just left it at home. This morning she had searched the house, and it still wasn't showing up, so she had called to ask if she could come do a deep search in the car. In the meantime, the police showed up, with her purse in tow. Someone had turned it in, minus the $70 cash, but at least they had turned it in, military ID, credit card and check book included.
Amy came over afterward to discuss the "adventure", and the children decided to serenade us with some rousing good morning music. They were quite a trio!

This afternoon we had some friends over to play. I was babysitting the 10 month old twins of another neighbor for part of that time, so I had a house FULL of kids for awhile! That wasn't really an adventure, just fun!

After the babies left, the big kids decided it would be fun to play in their "playhouse". They were pretending to be sheep, and shepherds and a sheep dog. It was hilarious!

My big adventure of the evening was supper. It seems that Zion inherited his ability to catch kitchen appliances on fire from me. We had taco's for supper, and I warmed the shells in the toaster oven. The first batch were only slightly browned, but still set off the smoke detector. The second batch was still okay. Then, when Andy was on the phone with his Mom, I decided to stick the last shell in to warm up. But, I didn't use the pan - I just set it directly in the oven.
 And I walked away.

Bad idea.

It seems that when taco shells burn enough, they then burst into flame, practically "melt" onto the burner of the toaster oven and make a horrendous mess.
I unplugged the toaster oven, then went running for the fire extinguisher, but my calm and wise Andy told me not to "waste it" on such a "small fire". He just left the door closed, so it wasn't getting any extra air, then threw some baking soda on it.
I guess in the long run, it really wasn't as big of an adventure as it could have been!
We opened all the windows, aired out the house, and vacuumed the inside of the toaster oven.
All in all, it wasn't too bad...
but it was enough adventure for me.

Unfortunately, my day was not quite over yet.

Tomorrow the real estate agent is coming over to take pictures of the house, so we can officially put it on the market. Needless to say, I am frantically trying to clean - to make it look as presentable as possible. We are also having a yard sale on Sat, so that I have less to move. I have been cleaning out closets, straightening shelves, and getting ready to tackle the attic. This evening, I discovered a whole case full of cassette tapes. OLD cassette tapes.
Andy was looking through them, laughing at the choices available, and he decided we just HAD to hear these. The only tape player we own is in my car, so out to the driveway we went. I felt like a couple of teenagers, sitting in the car, listening to music. I am sure we looked hilarious, and sounded even more so!
We were only out there about five minutes, (because old tapes really aren't that good) but when we came back in, Canaan was sitting by the front door, just sobbing! I felt like such a terrible parent. I thought he was asleep, but I guess he was awake enough to hear the front door open and close, and he got worried, and couldn't find us, and had worked himself into quite a stress level.
 Poor, pitiful thing!

That was my final adventure for the night - feeling like a terrible mom!

I'll close now with a quote from one of the tape covers. I was laughing my head off as Andy read it, but then he commented that it sure sounded like something I would say, and I realized that I had to agree. Surely I am not quite that cheesy, but they do have a good point.
It is just said in a very New Age, 1990  kind of way.
The band is "Nelson".
"The history of our vital and endangered planet earth is characterized by the music of the times. Likewise, music is the cornerstone of all future life.... Music is to the soul what breath is to the body.... since music forms the times in which we life... and music is power... perhaps we should start channeling that power responsibly and positively - to heal rather than harm - to bring a little joy and light into the world one song to one person at a time. We hope you'll listen and feel alive."

As you read my blog, I hope you "feel alive"- one person at a time!

Music

Just a few musical "notes".... (hahaha)

Andy plays his Ipod in his truck. It is set on "random", but for some reason, every time you start the truck the first song that plays is "Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but Nobody wants to die", by David Crowder. For some reason that I cannot explain, it is really amusing to hear a 2 year old chime in from the back seat "nobody wants to die"

But that wasn't what I got on here to say. I have gotten several comments recently about my blog's music. Mostly that there is too much country... I would apologize, but I am not sorry, so it would be a wasted breath. Besides, there really isn't THAT much country. If it bother's you that much, just hit "refresh" and something different is bound to come up.
Andy added some new music for me last night. Since he does not every update his own blog, he feels the need to be involved in mine on occasion. He has specifically asked that Corey, (and anyone else who is interested) check out The Mexican Scotsman and Group 1 Crew. I can't say that I would have picked them on my own, but Andy has rubbed off on me over the years, so I gave my approval and let him put them on my blog!

Last story. When we were in the truck last Sunday, driving down the road, listening to whatever random Ipod song popped up, I started writing down Canaan's comments. Here are a few.

"The words are too fast".... Rap (don't worry, even the fast words are double checked for cleanliness!)

"They sound like they are on the farm"..... Bluegrass

"Now this is good music".... Rock ("and Roll" according to him, but it is actually more "hard rock" in my opinion, albeit Christian)

So, if you have musical requests for my blog, let me know. I have my Zion and Canaan songs, (check them out, they are pretty amusing) my sisters song, Handel, Bach, Keith Green, Rich Mullins, even some Elvis, and a touch of rap. If I am missing anything, except the Beatles, please, let me know!
