First of all, I think that it is probably a good idea for me to NEVER blog at 11:30 at night. By that time I am exhausted, and my emotions are a little more sensitive then usual. I feel much better tonight. I have talked to several important people in my life and have been reminded that I DO have a definite calling, and that I am silly to doubt it. Andy hasn't mentioned any of our discussion from last night, so I will just wait for awhile and see where it all goes.
Secondly, it has been pointed out that Melissa does not remember pigs, and I felt called to clarify. I personally never had any contact with pigs. My family merely rented a house on property that was owned by a farmer, and the barns on said property were used for pig "storage". In all honestly, not only did I have nothing to do with the pigs, I don't even actually know what time of day they were fed. I was, and still am, completely terrified of pigs. I think that a combination of watching The Wizard of Oz too many times, and visiting the Marcellino farm as a very young and impressionable five year old worked together to create that fear, and I must admit that I have never fully overcome it. Pigs will eat anything..... way scary thought when you are quite a bit smaller then them. Charlotte's Web is all well and good, but pigs are still scary.
One last note for the evening - Zion has perfected the ability to eat a fork full of food, and with precision, spit out the vegetable that was hidden under the cottage cheese, and behind the macaroni. It is am amazing feat to witness. He has also decided that most food is better when it is chewed on for long amounts of time, then spit out. That trick is reserved mostly for meat, and I can't really fault him for that one, so we are letting it slide. Every day is an adventure!
A servant of Jesus Christ, military wife, homeschool mom, talking about a little bit of everything. Joy, Pain, Fear, Faith, and the learning that happens every day.
Who writes this stuff?

- I try to keep my priorities in order: Jesus, my Andy, our children, everything else. I homeschool our boys, love to read almost all written words and have been challenged by the military life for 18 years. Right now my faulty human body is demanding a lot of attention. One day at a time, learning as much as possible every day and remembering to look for JOY when other things threaten to overwhelm.
My Blog Title Verse
"For the Lord gives wisdom. From His mouth come knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:6 NKJV
The Message translation puts it this way "God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding."

so happy you are feeling better! It is so great that we don't have to go through life alone!
talk to you soon!
Okay first of all -- what on earth does the Wizard of Oz have to do with pigs? I think I'm missing something there. My big fear from the WoO was of the flying monkeys. {shudder} They totally freaked me out!
Secondly -- Zion and Jonas are on the same wavelength with the food! I recently bought a bunch of Luna bars, Clif bars, Lara bars (because he loves Nutrigrain bars but has gotten really finicky, so I figured if all he's going to eat in a day is a bar, I should get some with major nutritional benefit). He ate the first few just fine, but then he started doing this thing where he takes an ENORMOUS BITE, keeps it in his mouth until it's totally dissolved and gross, and then spits it out.
Thank goodness for my Bissell steam cleaner. My carpets are really suffering. {Sigh!}
I was also confused by the Wizard of Oz comment, though I usually just assume that I am the one who is mistaken when it comes to movie trivia....I thought there may have been some pigs on the dorothy farm or something.
I was also confused by the WoO comment. My prego mind mostly fails me these days, so I just thought I forgot again or something. I am with Michelle on the monkeys though.
You know we (Jerry and I) have had pigs, when Ansley was little, and I cannot even remember when they were fed. I only fed them a few times from what I do remember.
I am glad you are feeling better about your 'discussion' the other night with Andy. I still have to leave a comment on that post, and will soon. It will probably be a book like Carrie wrote.
Christian did the whole chew food, spit it out thing for a long time. He often, still crams tons of food in his mouth, but has now learned how to chew it enough to swallow it and not spit it out.
Bethany,
I know what you are talking about in the Wizard of Oz. At the beginning Dorothy is walking along the edge of the wooden fence of the pig pen and she falls into it with the pigs and they all start running towards her and the farm hands run and pick her up and get her out. Most people probably forget that scene. I agree with Michelle that the flying monkey scene scared me and I was probably in high school before I watched the movie past that point.
I know that I do not have kids, but I will tell you that I know a lot of people that homeschool their kids and their kids are just as smart and socially adept as kids in private or public schools. You just have to get the right curriculum and keep things structured somewhat. But, I will also say that you and Andy should probably sit down soon, alone, and not when you are driving, and seriously discuss this. Make it as calm as you can and even maybe draw up a chart showing the pros and cons. I mean, you already aren't working and if you did get a job at that Christian school, you would probably get a discounted tuition for Canaan, but not 100% scholarship (I recently audited a Christian school). PLUS, you'd also have to pay for childcare for Zion. But, at the end of the day, the two of you have to agree on this and you have to tell yourself that you will accept the decision that you make together and not be bitter about it. Andy is your husband and he is the head of your household. You should both be praying about this. Maybe you can agree to pray consistenly about this for an agreed upon period of time and then sit down to talk about it. All of my girlfriends who had really good marriage counseling do stuff like that with their husbands when they have a "discussion" that gets too heated: they agree they need to walk away from each other, but they agree that they need to discuss the matter calmly at an agreed-upon time. That way, you can calmly discuss the root of the issue.
Okay. I know that was super long. I hope it made sense. I will be praying for you as well. I know that this is a huge decision for you all.
Love,
Marcy
AH! NOW I remember the pigs! It has been so long since I have seen the movie, but now I remember and YES that is a scary scene, one I had apparently blocked from my memory! Alas, something else to fear! lol.
Ok it totally cracks me up that one sarcastic (and humorous) comment about pigs just started this huge debate on your blog! :)
Thanks for um...clarifying? :)
