Who writes this stuff?

I try to keep my priorities in order: Jesus, my Andy, our children, everything else. I homeschool our boys, love to read almost all written words and have been challenged by the military life for 18 years. Right now my faulty human body is demanding a lot of attention. One day at a time, learning as much as possible every day and remembering to look for JOY when other things threaten to overwhelm.

My Blog Title Verse

"For the Lord gives wisdom. From His mouth come knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:6 NKJV
The Message translation puts it this way "God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding."

A very full week

This week has been very full of exciting things. Zion started his speech therapy this week, and I think it has helped already. The therapist comes here to our home and basically just plays with him for about 30 minutes. It is very low key, but with lots of focus on talking about everything they are doing. He responds to her really well. I am almost jealous, because he says things for her that he will not even attempt to say for me. But, at least it is progress. Zion also decided to potty train this week. He insisted on wearing underwear. The first day he peed about 5 times in his pants, and I was about to give up. The second day he only had about 3 accidents. I think there was only one on the third day, but about 4 again on day number 4. Days 5, 6, and 7 have been accident free. He wears a diaper during nap time, and saves his poopy for that, but he stays dry all day long. I am pretty much in shock - I wasn't really taking potty training very seriously yet, but he wanted to do it. I am not sure what we are going to do about poopy, since he won't do that in the toilet, but for now I will take what I can get. Unfortunately for me, I had JUST BOUGHT 2 mega packs of diapers, and 2 packs of pullups. I found the receipt, and I think I can take at least one of them back, so that is good. We still need diapers at nap and bedtime, so have to keep a few in reserve anyway.
Canaan managed to stay dry at night almost all week. After five nights in a row, I let him wear underwear to bed. Of course, that was the night he peed. We'll just wait that one out I guess. He was so proud of himself, so I was sad for him when he had an accident again. Everything I read says it is pretty common for boys to wet the bed for several years, so I am not worried yet. He is doing so good at his school, learning to read, and write, and add, and write his numbers. He amazes me every day!
Andy got his birthday present today. His birthday is not until March 17. but he talked me into getting a new tv. He wanted bigger (then our current one), I wanted flatter and using less energy, so we are both content with the new LCD. It seems a little extravagant, but I know we will enjoy it for a long time, so will choose to be happy, instead of feeling guilty. Please, no one remind me of the starving children in Africa!
We are going to watch T3 on our new tv, so I better run. I just wanted to share some of my excitement about the comings and goings of the Freeman crew.

Yay! I feel like I have some encouraging things to say for your blog today!!!! I love to feel helpful!
First of all, don't feel guilty or jealous because Zion is saying things for the speech therapist and he doesn't to you. It is most likely because you are his MOMMY and you can understand his "speech" without words because you have been doing it since the day he was born! He knows he can look at you, make a gesture, "communicate" in so many other ways with you because you will always understand, you are his MOMMY! You don't need words with mommy and son!
I am so thrilled that it is going so well though! I have meant to ask and always think of it when we hang up!
Another thing...don't return your diapers or pull ups! We are going on a year after Noah has been potty trained and he still wears a diaper at night and nap time. Sometimes it is dry when he wakes up, most of the time it is not. So, keep em around. I am sure you will use them. We still buy about a pack a month, size 6! I am not pushing at all for him to be dry at night. I think that when they are ready to do it, they just will, and as long as I don't have to carry diapers and wipes everywhere I go, he can wear a diaper when he sleeps until he is 6 for all I care! lol.
Congrats on the new tv. I am sure you movie buffs will greatly enjoy the new toy! When we come visit we can all watch a movie together. A "grown-up" (I didn't say adult :) movie.
Yay for fun times!

on another note, don't you feel great that you are at the point in your life where you can blog about pooping and not cringe?

Wow, congratulations on starting speech therapy! When you get a minute (I know - like when do moms ever have a free minute!?) I'd love to hear more about that (how'd you go about starting, what kinds of things are they targeting, what does the SLP do with him?). I know we talked a while ago about our boys having some similar sounding speech issues - want to drop me a line? cmnebel(at)yahoo(dot)com or michelle(dot)nebel(at)gmail(dot)com

Thanks bunches!

I am so proud of Zion. Sounds like y'all had a pretty eventful week. Don't feel bad about Canaan and the accidents at night. Kylie still has them as well. We do pull up or diapers every night no matter what. We have tried not drinking anything within a certain time before bed, going potty before bed, etc. but still she has 'accidents'. It is okay though. I have just accepted it that at one point she will learn to wake herself up (I have watched her sleep and tee tee right through it before). The accidents she has had at school (which don't happen often), her teacher says she will go before nap and then still have an accident, or may not have an accident until she is waking up, but not woke up enough to rush out of her sleep spot and go to the potty. She is such a deep sleeper and always has been.
Keep up the training. Zion will do great. We have always used sticker charts homemade by the girls. We also sing the 'pee pee in the potty, pee pee in the potty' song and dance around the bathroom to it.
I am glad Zion is communicating. As my nephew's therapist told my sister..."one day it will just click and he will be full of words to express and will do that".
Btw...could you pray for my nephew Hayden (my sister's youngest). His corpus colusotomy (sp?) is tomorrow morning. They are cutting his brain a complete 100% in hopes to stop some of the seizures. He will lose many skills he has gained in therapy this past year, but since he is so young the doctors are sure he can gain it all back.
We love you and miss you guys. I will post the pics if I can get a good one. I will have to take a pic. on my camera of the pic. from the doctor, but will try.
Have a great week. Chat with you soon.
Love you,
Christina
